Nepal Earthquake 2015

The month of April- May are generally hot days in Kathmandu. These months are considered as the starting months of summer season.
But the starting of the day was cloudy that day. It was cool morning and it was not hard to predict that the day will be a gloomy day. Saturday is considered as holiday on Nepal as Sunday on other countries. School, colleges and offices remains closed that day. People were trying to celebrate their holiday on their own way.
Who knows the nature was planning to celebrate it on different way. While the clock strike 11:56 the nature showed its surprise package.

The earthquake was about a minute long and it was shaking really so fast that every living creature existing there were frightened. It is said that the magnitude of earthquake was 7.8 rector scale and killed more than 7500 people after destroying thousands of structures causing billions dollar loss.

Nepal is famous for its art and architecture. Kathmandu city is also known as the city of temple. But the earthquake destroyed one of the world heritage listed by UNESCO, “Kathmandu Durbar Square”. Kathmandu Durbar Square is popularly known for its artistic palace and temple. “Kasthamandup” the temple build with the timber of single tree also lies within Durbar Square. After the name of Kasthamandup, the name of capital city of Nepal, “Kathmandu” was derived.
The nine storied white unique pillar “Dharahara” was also completely destroyed by the Nepal earthquake 2015. This pillar used to be the unique sign of Kathmandu. About 150 people were killed while the “Dharahara” fell due to earthquake.


The center point of earthquake was said to at “Barpak” of Gorkha District. The earthquake mostly affect north-east part of Nepal. The most affected district was Sindhupalchowk, Gorkha and Kathmandu valley. Kathmandu valley consists of three districts Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur.

The open air museum Patan Durbar Square and Bhaktapur Durbar square were completely destroyed. These squares were mind blowing architecture of Malla dynasty.




The whole village were completely destroyed on Gorkha and Sindhupalchowk districts. Thousands were killed and many were injured.
